Portraits: winter snow day family session in suamico

winter-snow-photos-green-bay-photographer-wisconsin-family-pictures-sledding-lifestyle-reforestation-camp-suamico-1 winter-snow-photos-green-bay-photographer-wisconsin-family-pictures-sledding-lifestyle-reforestation-camp-suamico-2The snow is falling heavily on the big hickory tree in our front yard and it’s Christmas Eve Eve (this constitutes a real holiday in my family of over-celebrators).  This has me in the mood to share some snowy day photos from my session with Shannon and her two kiddos. When I met with Shannon she explained that she had been searching for someone to take photos in which she and her children got to be themselves – laugh, play, and be natural in front of the camera. Whether it was bending down to pick a flower, or twirling in the falling snow, she wanted images that showed their personalities and character. We call sessions like this “lifestyle sessions” and I new the perfect spot in Suamico, if only we could get a fresh blanket of snow… and we did.

Ben and I packed our weatherproof gear, laced our boots, and loaded up the vintage Radio Flyer sled that sits on our front porch during the winter months. Cecily and Duncan loved the snow – running, twirling, and eating handfuls of it as it came down all around us. We did a little posing and a lot of playing to keep up with those two and in the end got to make a little winter magic. Happy Holidays, everyone! Enjoy your weekend!

Portraits: winter family session at door county tree farm

Wisconsin winters can be cold and long, but they also allow for some pretty spectacular photographs for those brave enough to handle these chilly days. We loved Vicent’s one year session and family photos at this Door County tree farm in late November. Tiffany and Carlos brought along a plaid wool blanket, and a little wagon for Vicent. We packed up some cocoa to help keep the chill out. That baby was bundled and wrapped and snuggled to keep warm. All of it set us up to capture real moments of parents caring for their little one, and loving one another. Such a magical reminder of what matters as we go into this holiday season. Happy First Birthday, Vicent!

Events: family session and reunion at game day in appleton

appleton-photographer-birthday-event-wisconsin-family-portrait-children-photographyIt’s not often that we say yes to photographing family events, but when Hillary called from Chicago planning an event in Appleton before she and her family moved to Denver, I got curious. Hillary and Aaron were making plans to move west with their boys at the end of October, but before they departed they wanted to have one big event to say goodbye to their family. An important part of the celebration was that Aaron’s two grandmothers would be there, keeping cozy on the chilly night by patio heaters and endless cups of coffee delivered by loved ones. They knew it would be a special event that the family would want to look back on.

Ben and I divided up to photograph groupings of each of the individual families, and also to capture candid moments throughout the evening. It was an event full of joy, laughter, and people holding each other close.

Portraits: fall family session at westwood hills nature center, minneapolis minnesota

minneapolis-minnesota-family-photos-lgbt-westwood-hills-nature-center-st-paul-photographer-1 minneapolis-minnesota-family-photos-lgbt-westwood-hills-nature-center-st-paul-photographer-2In all the bustle of a wedding day, sometimes it’s hard to slow down and have a moment with those you love best. That’s what Together Sessions are for. When Tracy and Kristy mentioned saving their session for family photos with their son, Vinny, we thought that was a perfect idea! We would have an opportunity to photograph them as they truly are on a real day – favorite clothes, home city, and a little family walk. The session was held on a chilly October morning, but Vinny was kept warm by his puffer vest and an occasional snuggle underneath a cozy blanket. Despite the cold, Vinny was a trooper – entertained by Ben’s antics and happily exploring the area. It was a pleasure photographing this beautiful family!

Portraits: fall family session at home, hobart, wisconsin

christmas-pictures-green-bay-family-photographer-home-lifestyle-fall-children-holiday-cards-hobart-wisconsin-1 christmas-pictures-green-bay-family-photographer-home-lifestyle-fall-children-holiday-cards-hobart-wisconsin-2When fall arrives late, photographers rejoice because it means we get beautiful, rich color into November. The {H} Family’s session took place the last few days of October, and yet the leaves were still orange and red tones. When Sara suggested holding their biannual family photos at their home in Hobart, that seemed like a wonderful way to make the images more personal. It would be a familiar location for Sam and Ben, and also gave us the opportunity to photograph in front of meaningful spots, like the climbing vines Sara transplanted from her parents’ house. The day was temperate and overcast and we topped the session off with some lifestyle images of Sam and Ben playing basketball in the front yard. Images like that are perfect because they document exactly who the boys are right now and what they’re interested in.

Portraits: charlotte’s one year session, pamperin park, green bay

Nothing marks a year gone by more pointedly than a baby’s growth. In wonderful cases like Baby Charlotte, we’ve gotten to see them in between as they start to sit up, smile and interact. But when we see them at one year old, standing, laughing, and – in Charlotte’s case – running, it’s really incredible. Those tiny sleeping bundles grow up and we love seeing the new things they learn and the little people they’re growing into. Charlotte’s session was all fall fun, starting with mommy and daddy time and ending with balloons, pumpkins, and leaves. Her favorite things are songs, books, and teasing us by running the other way. Happy First Birthday. Charlotte!

Portraits: warm fall family session at barkhausen waterfowl preserve, suamico

This makes everyone more relaxed and helps us create authentic images with playful moments like the ones captured in this session. The brother/sister duo, Avery and Jackson, are funny and sweet together. Their curiosity makes everything new and interesting as though their experiences are a big adventure to be conquered together – hand in hand, side by side. They are always ready for wherever we plan to go, and whatever we want to play next. We really enjoyed photographing this session, and couldn’t be happier with that warm, sunny, light that is the ultimate gift of early fall.

Portraits: elizabeth’s one year session, pamperin park, green bay

green-bay-family-photographer-pamperin-park-pictures-child-one-year-outdoors-lifestyle-photos-1 green-bay-family-photographer-pamperin-park-pictures-child-one-year-outdoors-lifestyle-photos-2Outdoor sessions with kiddos have so much more personality to them. Outdoors there are things to explore, places to run to, games to play, and of course all the natural beauty that is Wisconsin in summer.  Elizabeth turned one in spring, and ever since then she’s been on the move. It was important to us to capture this new milestone for her family, and Pamperin Park in Green Bay was a great location. Elizabeth is playful, fearless, and full of smiles. She teased us by looking away as she laughed and by running full speed after each big smile. This made natural images that show exactly who she is right now (sneaky expressions and all). Happy First Birthday, Elizabeth!

Portraits: rustic family session at fonferek glen, green bay

rustic-country-family-green-bay-photography-kids-children-fonferek-glen-photos-1 rustic-country-family-green-bay-photography-kids-children-fonferek-glen-photos-2Little boys going on big adventures – there is nothing more perfect. That’s what we loved about the {C} Family’s session at Fonferek Glen in De Pere. Hayden, Mason, and Brady each have completely different personalities, but when it comes to getting into mischief together, they are all in. The fields of Fonferek were a great place for them to explore and play as we captured the colors and textures of the warm summer night. The session ended with the family of five holding hands and walking toward the fields, their long shadows stretching across the grass. These are the summer moments that midwesterners cling to as the days get shorter and the kiddos grow bigger. We were so happy to capture these boys at such fun ages, full of curiosity and joy!
