Portraits: green isle park spring maternity session, waiting for baby {j}

When Ashley and Jesse got married two years ago, we were there for their wedding day. We also had the privilege of taking their engagement photos that May in an orchard full of apple blossoms. This winter they’re celebrating a new milestone as they wait for their baby boy due next month.

When Ashley contacted me about her February session, we planned for a “winter wonderland” theme. Imagining layers of snow, and heavy branches in one of the coldest months, we were surprised as the date came closer and the forecast was in the mid-sixties. Wisconsin weather is always out to surprise us! The warm, sunny day was beautiful. Ice still coated the East River, but little buds were on the trees, and the creamy long grasses made for a beautiful spring backdrop. How perfect for the world to be in a season of renewal as Ashley and Jesse await their first baby.

Congratulations! We look forward to meeting him!

Portraits: waiting for baby {s}, fonferek glen, green bay

Green-Bay-Maternity-Photos-Pregnancy-Photography-Fonferek-Falls-Rustic-Country-Spring-Belly-Kasey-and-BenWhen it comes to portraits, most people want to wait until the grass has become thick and all the trees have developed leaves. But babies have their own plans and timelines, which gets us out and about photographing in one of my favorite times of year – spring. I’ve got nothing against lush beds of green grass, but for me, there is nothing like those creamy early spring tones of fields and branches – perfect for a rustic, country maternity session like this one.

Ashley and Scott both studied Dairy Science at UW-Madison, and since it was a small program, they got to know each other very well and connected in a way that brings us to today, three weeks away from the arrival of their first baby girl. Being “cold weather people” the 45 degree day was no challenge for them, and the location we chose fit well with their personalities and backgrounds, both coming from Minnesota farming families. We got the opportunity to include some favorite childhood books, tiny John Deere cow socks, and of course, one of Baby {S}’s first photos – her sonogram.

We know there are many family members out their waiting patiently for this little girl to arrive, and we can’t wait to be a part of her newborn session once she makes her debut. Congratulations, Ashley and Scott!

Portraits: waiting for baby elizabeth

Green_Bay_Maternity_Photos_Outdoor_De_Pere_Waterfront_Voyeger_Park_SunsetAnytime I feel unsure about the beauty of early spring in Wisconsin (wondering how long I have to wait for grass and leafy trees), all I need to do is go near the water.  When the golden hour hits and the light settles on that cold water, there is incredible beauty (even as we wait for the greenery to arrive).  And how appropriate to photograph the anticipation of a new life in the springtime – nature is waking up and baby Elizabeth is preparing to meet her family.

Rachel and John’s maternity session was a chilly one, but we are so glad that they chose to do it outdoors.  Rachel looked so beautiful with the afternoon light reflecting off her hair, and they both looked so happy to be together, celebrating what was yet to come. Congratulations; we look forward to meeting little Elizabeth!
