Weddings: jamie and nick at stone harbor, door county

Door_County_Stone_Harbor_Sunset_Park_Wedding_1 Door_County_Stone_Harbor_Sunset_Park_Wedding_2Being a Door County native myself, it is always a pleasure to return to the area to photograph beautiful weddings like this one.  Jamie and Nick planned their fall wedding at Stone Harbor Resort which sits along the water in Sturgeon Bay.  From the windows of the reception hall you could look out and see the historic steel bridge that crosses over the canal, the nearby shipyard, and many docks filled with sailboats.

If rain really is good luck on a wedding day, Jamie and Nick can expect a lot of it.  The morning of their ceremony brought chilly temps, strong winds, and plenty of rain, but none of it dampened the spirits of the couple or the guests.  With a trolly on hand to shuttle the party to their photo destinations, they hopped aboard and we were able to find a few minutes of time without rain for some lovely fall wedding photos.  Jamie and Nick are incredibly respectful people – they are detail oriented, gentle with each other, and always concerned about others.  It was the love and care they put into their wedding and their relationship that made this day so special.  Congratulations, Jamie and Nick!

Weddings: nikki and tom at heritage hill

Heritage_Hill_Chapel_Wedding_Photography_Green_Bay_Beautiful1 Heritage_Hill_Chapel_Wedding_Photography_Green_Bay_Beautiful2I’m not sure how, but amidst the rainy, windy, foggy days that led into this fall, Nikki and Tom found the perfect day with perfect weather: 60’s, sunny, not a drop of rain in sight.  We had stunning, golden light all afternoon and enjoyed our little trip around the park to photograph the bridal party and couple.  Heritage Hill is one of our favorite venues as it offers such a variety of looks all in one location (a rustic log cabin, dreamy farmhouse, and wild fields all tucked into the heart of a city).  As photographers we couldn’t  ask for much more.

It fits Nikki’s personality to have a warm day showered in sunlight – she is bright, bubbly and has a way of making everything seem just a little more joyful.  Together Nikki and Tom are playful and relaxed as though their love is the most natural thing in the world.  To see them interact is to see the kind of love all marriages work hard to build, one with patience and understanding.  I want to say a big congratulations to the newlyweds; we are so happy to have been a part of your day!

Weddings: courtney and cody in brussels wisconsin

Door_County_Wedding_Farm_Field_Brussels_Catholic1 Door_County_Wedding_Farm_Field_Brussels_Catholic2When I arrived for Courtney and Cody’s day, I was expecting the usual chaotic buzz that comes with last minute wedding preparations.  Instead, I walked into a room filled with family and friends laughing, teasing, and smiling without any worries or concern.  I think it comes from being women and families who have known each other long and been through a lot together: weddings and babies, victories and losses.  There was a familiarity between them, a sense of knowing what needed to be done without having to ask.

Throughout the afternoon I noticed how attentive everyone in the bridal party was, and how humbled Courtney and Cody were to have such a loving circle with whom to share their day.  Even with a large guest list, everything about the day felt personal – the ceremony, the speeches, and the interactions between everyone in attendance.  When the church is filled to standing room only, there is no question of if there is love there.  There is so much love that the building is bursting at the seams to contain it.  It was a blessing to document your day, Courtney and Cody; cheers to many happy adventures ahead!

Weddings: stephanie and dalton’s vintage barn wedding, waukesha

Waukesha_Outdoor_Barn_Wedding_Wisconsin_Vintage_Bed_and_Breakfast_1 Waukesha_Outdoor_Barn_Wedding_Wisconsin_Vintage_Bed_and_Breakfast_2Stephanie and Dalton planned the most beautiful September wedding.  The ceremony took place at Apple Tree Lane Bed and Breakfast in Waukesha, Wisconsin in a small clearing beneath arches of trees with a river that ran along the side.  The guests sat on bails of hay covered in vintage linens and the couple said their vows under an archway of greens with patches of sun breaking through.  Both the bride and groom were completely relaxed and anticipating this moment for which they had waited seven years.

Their romance is classic and beautiful: two young kids meeting in school with lockers side by side.  This simplicity was shown in every decision they made as they planned their wedding, including choosing Dalton’s family barn for the reception location.  Food was catered in, strings of lights hung floor to ceiling, and fresh ivory linens covered all the tables.  The room was filled with the love of family and friends.  Congratulations to Stephanie and Dalton, and cheers to many years ahead!

Weddings: kendra and garrett at lambeau field, green bay

There are so many things to love about this wedding: a first look in the Lambeau Field tunnel, beautiful sunny skies for on-the-field photos, and gold glitter platforms… but let’s be real here, it’s all about that blush dress!  Kendra and Garrett are big Packers fans, so when they planned their day, the venue was a no-brainer. The wedding was a destination of sorts as the couple lives in River Falls, but since football had bonded them together, the travel was worth the setting.  Kendra and Garrett’s family and friends gathered for the ceremony, excited by the amazing view looking out over the stadium.  The couple read heartfelt vows and poured mixed sand into a frame to symbolize the new life they were beginning together.  It was such a joy to share in their special day and photograph all the little details.  Congratulations, Kendra and Garrett!

Weddings: jessie and jerry at botanical gardens, green bay

Botanical_Gardens_Green_Bay_Outdoor_Wedding_Photography1 Botanical_Gardens_Green_Bay_Outdoor_Wedding2We have been so blessed this year to be the photographers for some very beautiful and unique outdoor weddings.  Jessie and Jerry’s gorgeous wedding celebration  at Botanical Gardens was no exception.  Jessie chose the most stunning mermaid-style gown with a low exposed back and had her hair done in a chic, classic updo.  Each detail from ceremony to reception was chosen for it’s simplicity,  style, and continuity.  The colors were deep plum and a natural khaki with lace and burlap accents.

The forecast was heavy with rain and all week we were preparing: gearing up our cameras; the bridal party was hunting down umbrellas.  The wedding included an outdoor ceremony and it was not to be missed.  The morning of the wedding, a sheet of gray clouds covered the sky, and the forecast read 85% rain all day.  As Jessie and Jerry dressed, it looked like the ceremony would be a wet one, but as the vows were read and the rings exchanged, not a drop fell.  The ceremony came to a close, and as it did, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds – a happy and welcoming symbol for Jessie and Jerry beginning the next chapter in their lives together.  Congratulations to both of you!  We were so glad to be a part of your special day!

Weddings: tiffany and carlos, potawatomi park door county

Potowatomi_State_Park_Door_County_Outdoor_Wedding1 Potowatomi_State_Park_Door_County_Outdoor_Wedding2Tiffany and Carlos planned a wedding close to their own hearts: it included elements that blended their two cultures: she from Door County, he from Spain.  The bride wore jewelry from her grandmother, and a mantilla veil, the flowers were purchased at the farmers market that morning and bouqueted by her family.  The pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres featured a pairing of Spanish wines with local cheeses, cherries and smoked fish.  With the ceremony on the fishing docks of Potowotomi State Park, the couple’s  friends and families were afforded a gorgeous view of the bay complete with sailboats and seagulls passing through. Guests lined the aisle, turning around to get a glimpse of the bride.

The ceremony was incredibly emotional, with the most intimate of families and vows written in each other’s languages.  As the ceremony came to a close, Tiffany and Carlos each tossed a smooth, white stone into the water – the intertwining circles symbolizing their worlds merging together.  After a little wine, and a few photos, the couple boarded a boat and crossed the bay to their reception at The Lodge at Leathem Smith.  The day was a beautiful reflection of the couple – sweet, relaxed and gentle. Congratulations, Tiffany and Carlos!

Weddings: elise and kristian, peninsula park door county

Intimate weddings are our absolute favorite.  We have more time with the bride and groom as they prepare for the day, the details are more personal, and the guests are there for no other purpose than to witness the special commitment between two people.  Elise and Kristian planned their wedding in Fish Creek, Wisconsin at Peninsula State Park for a Wednesday afternoon in August.  Having the ceremony later in the day gave us gorgeous light that came directly across the bay as they said their vows and slid down into sunset as they celebrated with their families.

I cannot say enough about how much I loved this wedding. Elise and Krisitan each chose one attendant, and had a small guest list of 27 people, which gave the day a very cozy, festive feeling.  The flowers were grown by Elise and her mother and bouqueted that morning, her brother made the lovely cake, and Kristian’s brother played acoustic guitar throughout the ceremony.  The entire day spoke about who the bride and groom were as a couple: there were no obligations in terms of guests, no compromises in style, and no pretending to be anyone other than themselves.  We enjoyed every minute and are so happy to have been a part of such a genuine day.  Congratulations, Elise and Kristian!

Weddings: jennifer and eric, pamperin park green bay

Pamperin_Park_Outdoor_Wedding_Green_Bay_Wisconsin1 Pamperin_Park_Outdoor_Wedding_Green_Bay_Wisconsin2Summer means so many things, especially to us midwesterners who know how precious warm weather is.  Summer means beach days, flip-flops, farmers markets, and of course, weddings!  Jennifer and Eric could not have had better weather for their celebration this July! It was one of the days with gorgeous golden light ducking in and out behind clouds.

For Jennifer and Eric this day was not a beginning, but a confirmation of years of love – it was a renewal of promises made time and time again.  These promises were built in the moment that he cared for her when she was ill, when he claimed her girls as his, and when he got down on one knee in a parking lot with rain pouring down around them.  They proved to me once more that most beautiful thing about weddings is that at the end, you have a whole marriage ahead of you.

Jenn and Eric, it was a pleasure to be apart of your day, and we are so happy for your family! Best wishes and congratulations!
