Weddings: miranda & kyle, simply country barn, freedom, wisconsin

To say we were blown away by Miranda and Kyle’s wedding would be an understatement. Simply Country Barn in Freedom is a gorgeous venue with high, open-structured ceilings, and rustic-elegant details. The wedding featured baby’s breath, greens, and pinecones, as well as antlers the couple collected while shed hunting. The afternoon was hot but the couple and their wedding party remained in good spirits. We photographed all around the venue, at the little bridal cabin, in the evergreens, and even made a special post-dinner trip outside for golden hour – our favorite! Congratulations, Miranda and Kyle; we wish you many years of happiness!

Weddings: katie & randy, radisson paper valley, appleton, wisconsin

When I met with Katie and Randy over Skype from their home in Seattle, I immediately liked them, and I have a feeling that is how most people feel about the couple. They are open, down-to-earth people full of positive energy, and their wedding was no different. Although the day was hot for Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin, Katie, Randy, and their friends were all in high spirits. Their first look was in the courtyard of Radisson Paper Valley where their wedding would take place that afternoon. We traveled to Lawrence University in downtown Appleton for photos with their fun bridal party.

The ceremony was personal with unique readings and a “irreversible chemical reaction” to symbolize their unity. My favorite part was their vows in which they promised to be by one another’s side when they need help, and get out of the way when they don’t. For some reason I found that phrase to be a lovely way to talk about a marriage of equals in a real way (or maybe it’s my stubborn personality appreciating their stubborn personalities, lol). Either way, congratulations, Katie and Randy! We wish you many years of happiness!

Weddings: theresa & ben, st. mary’s church and oshkosh convention center

Theresa and Ben are the sweetest couple. They are thoughtful and organized and just the best to work with. They even sent us a card with a Starbucks gift card to cover our morning coffee – seriously, the best. So, when Theresa called the day before their wedding, to say that disaster had struck and their reception could no longer be held at the hall they reserved, it was no surprise that they were handling the situation with patience and grace. In less than 24 hours they had new venue and everything was completely stunning: twinkle lights, uplighting, thoughtfully dedicated tables, and lots of little details. If you didn’t have to change the address in your gps, you would never have known it was not the plan.

After a beautiful ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh, the bridal party packed up and drove to Doty Park in Neenah where we could take advantage of the sunny day surrounded by willow trees and waterfront. The day may not have gone exactly as planned, but it was exactly how it was meant to be. Congratulations, Theresa and Ben!

Weddings: ashley & jesse, bridgewood resort, neenah

Appleton-Doty-Park-Wedding-Neenah-Fall-Church-Photography-November-Catholic-Green-Bay2 Appleton-Doty-Park-Wedding-Neenah-Fall-Church-Photography-November-Catholic-Green-Bay1Photographers spend a lot of time talking about the voice or theme of different weddings when we chat amongst ourselves. If I were to talk about Ashley and Jesse’s wedding with my photographer friends, the first thing I would mention is what a powerful color story it had. Ashley and Jesse chose a bold look with two simple colors, red and white, and used them as focal points connecting every part of their day together from the ceremony at Saint Bernadette Parish in Appleton to our photography stops at Lawrence University and Doty Park, to the reception at Bridgewood Resort in Neenah. The pure white of their details (like the textured cake, glowing candles, and beaded dress) acted as a continuous theme, punctuated by pops of bright red roses. It was romantic and we loved it.

Jesse and Ashley have been so wonderful to get to know as a couple, from our first meeting over coffee to their picturesque apple blossom engagement, they are clearly a pair who bring out the best in each other. It was wonderful to be a part of their wedding day, and to see not only how much they care for one another, but also how much their friends and family care for them. Congratulations, Ashley and Jesse!

Weddings: kayla & zach, vintage brewers wedding at timber rattlers stadium

This was the greatest part about Kayla and Zach’s wedding. They are big time sports fans, with Brewers baseball topping the list. When they got engaged and began to plan, it only made sense to incorporate this love of a team that bonded them together. Kayla and Zach held their wedding day on the field of the Timber Rattlers Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin. The girls were in royal blue dresses with bright yellow shoes (the vintage Brewers colors) and the guys had boutonnieres made from baseballs.

The day was filled with incredible details: a popcorn bar, stadium tickets for place-cards, and centerpieces made from worn baseballs in glass pillars. Kayla and Zach had thought of everything, and it made for the best guest experience – with surprises around every corner. (We loved it too!) After the ceremony, we spent some time photographing on the field at the stadium, and in the late afternoon, headed over to Doty Park for that warm, glowing October light that makes people like me fall in love with autumn. Congratulations to Kayla and Zach!
