Portraits: family photos at green bay botanical gardens

Ten years ago on this day, Emily and I were in Italy together studying art history and printmaking. It’s strange for me to think about years later with graduations, weddings, homes, art-making, jobs, and babies filling the time in between. Now we photograph Emily’s family and she watches our baby, Juniper. There are all these versions of ourselves keeping in contact though memories and photographs, and I can remember exactly what it felt like to sit side-by-side sketching in Florence, or walk the streets while trying to make up rhyming songs about what we were doing (something Emily was always much better at than I). Now the photos include our families and the rhyming nonsense songs have a captive audience (Charlotte, Nora, and Juniper). So amazing how time works.

Happy first birthday, Nora!

Portraits: spring mommy and me session at green bay botanical gardens

Spring in Wisconsin is unpredictable. Sometimes it’s 85 in March, and sometimes we get three feet of snow in April. After a long winter (and a few trial versions of spring), May is a welcome month. The leaves start to bud on the trees, fruit blossoms appear, and the gardens burst with tulips and daffodils. We held this year’s Limited Edition Spring Sessions at Green Bay Botanical Gardens to capture this beauty. Lucky for us the day was warm and sunny, and it couldn’t have been better weather to be outdoors capturing happy families and playful kiddos.

These images are from Jen and Briella’s mommy and me session. The pair had never had professional family photos done together and this was a way for them to mark this time in their lives as they prepare for a big move across the country. Their session was casual and fun, and you would think they were experienced in front of the camera — Briella even came up with her own pose she wanted to do! Sending this family best wishes on the move! Stay posted for more family sessions from our 2018 Limited Edition Sessions!

Seniors: greta, botanical gardens and de pere waterfront

I have always loved bold fashion choices. I may not have been savvy enough to figure out what I could (and could not) pull off when I was a senior in high school, but seniors like Greta already know exactly how to put an outfit together. When Greta showed up at the Green Bay Botanical Gardens in a yellow floral jumpsuit, I may have made the heart eyes emoji with my actual face. I love the vibrant color choice and it was a perfect fit for a summer evening (especially with those boho platforms!)

Greta is a senior at Green Bay East High School in the class of 2018. She is involved in soccer, cross-country, and yoga and loves art and painting. She spent the summer as a lifeguard and is currently thinking about a path in medicine for her future. We wish her the best of luck on all her future endeavors!

Portraits: tori’s one year session, green bay botanical gardens

Tori is full of personality! Just a moment with her and you’ll realize how closely she watches everything around her. She learns quickly how things work, how they go together, how they come apart (and, when possible, how to get inside). Tori makes people work for her sweet smiles, but the moment she brightens up, we all smile along with her.

We had the most beautiful evening to document Tori’s first Birthday at Green Bay Botanical Gardens. It was mid-May so the fruit blossoms were still on the trees and the fields were filled with tulips. Spring is such a gorgeous time for family sessions like these! Happy First Birthday, Tori!

Senior Session: paige, botanical gardens & downtown green bay

We meet fun people in cute clothes and spend the afternoon making beautiful images. Paige’s session at Green Bay Botanical Gardens and downtown Green Bay in the Broadway District was especially fun because she brought along her best friend, Hanna. The day was filled with warm fall light balanced by rough urban textures – a perfect combination for vibrant images. Paige is a student at Notre Dame High School where she is involved in sports and attends many school sporting events with friends. She is enjoying her senior year and looking forward to everything that comes after. Congratulations, Paige (Hanna too!)

Senior Session: ashley, green bay botanical gardens

botanical-gardens-senior-portraits-oconto-falls-high-school-yearbook-pictures-garden-flowers-park-session-green-bayThe best part about late summer (for photographers) is the way the light changes from pale and bright, to warm and vibrant. August evenings are full of golden, tree-filtered sunbeams that are absolutely wonderful to photograph, especially with a location like Green Bay Botanical Gardens and a beautiful subject like Ashley. Ashley is super involved at Oconto Falls High School from running cross country and track to participating in student council and FFA. She is making the most of her last year of high school. We enjoyed spending the evening photographing her and soaking up that summer light! Cheers to one last year, Ashley!

Senior Session: dana, green bay botanical gardens

Green-Bay-Botanical-Gardens-Senior-Photos-Photographer-Preble-High-School-Senior-PortraitsI live for late summer days like the one we had for Dana’s session. These are the days where it’s warm into the evening hours, and reaches that perfect golden hour light just before sunset. Days like this make me glad my job has me outside exploring, photographing, and getting to know cool people like Dana.

Dana goes to Preble High School in Green Bay where she is involved in everything music – jazz band, pep band, and head of props for school performances (to name a few). She is funny, fashionable (I mean, check out that blush romper), and easy to get along with. It was a great experience photographing her. Enjoy your final year, Dana, and cheers to an exciting future!

Weddings: jessie and jerry at botanical gardens, green bay

Botanical_Gardens_Green_Bay_Outdoor_Wedding_Photography1 Botanical_Gardens_Green_Bay_Outdoor_Wedding2We have been so blessed this year to be the photographers for some very beautiful and unique outdoor weddings.  Jessie and Jerry’s gorgeous wedding celebration  at Botanical Gardens was no exception.  Jessie chose the most stunning mermaid-style gown with a low exposed back and had her hair done in a chic, classic updo.  Each detail from ceremony to reception was chosen for it’s simplicity,  style, and continuity.  The colors were deep plum and a natural khaki with lace and burlap accents.

The forecast was heavy with rain and all week we were preparing: gearing up our cameras; the bridal party was hunting down umbrellas.  The wedding included an outdoor ceremony and it was not to be missed.  The morning of the wedding, a sheet of gray clouds covered the sky, and the forecast read 85% rain all day.  As Jessie and Jerry dressed, it looked like the ceremony would be a wet one, but as the vows were read and the rings exchanged, not a drop fell.  The ceremony came to a close, and as it did, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds – a happy and welcoming symbol for Jessie and Jerry beginning the next chapter in their lives together.  Congratulations to both of you!  We were so glad to be a part of your special day!
