Weddings: stephanie & cory, southern door church wedding

When I first met with Stephanie and her sister over drinks to chat about she and her fiancé’s wedding day, I had no idea the connection they had to the Brussels area or Southern Door School (my grade school alma mater). As we chatted about details and her fiancé, Cory, I started to piece things together and realized I knew exactly whose wedding this was, and was all the more excited about their special day! Cory and Stephanie are an incredible couple. They are both smart, determined, and down-to-earth. They care not just about what is best for themselves and each other, but what is best for the people around them and their community. Anyone who knows them well realizes how lucky them are to call them friends.

Stephanie and Cory got married at our favorite little Catholic church in Brussels and held their reception at Rock Gardens in Green Bay. We stopped along the way for pictures at Sugar Creek looking out over the bay (so gorgeous!) and Green Bay Botanical Gardens for photos of just the two of them. The wedding details were stunning, her dress was timeless, and the guests really brought the party when it came to the dance floor (choreographed bridal party dance, anyone??) But the best part of their wedding day was when they were announced as husband and wife at the end of the ceremony. This is always a special moment to witness as the bride and groom turn toward their guests glowing with pride, but it was even more intense with this couple. As Stephanie and Cory turned toward their friends and family, big smiles across their faces, their guests erupted with applause and cheers. I have never heard a celebration like that; it was as if everyone in that tiny church was feeling that moment right along with them.

We were so happy to be a part of this special day! Big congratulations to Stephanie and Cory!

Engagements: stephanie & cory, southern door barn and countryside

Cory and Stephanie are dream chasers. They are ambitious and kind-hearted, the sort of people who find out what needs to be done and make it happen. Knowing they would make a good match, their mutual friends spent a long time trying to set them up. Luckily they acquiesced and just over two years later, here we are.

As we started planning their engagement session, Cory and Stephanie brought up the idea of photographing at the site of their future home in Brussels, Wisconsin. Cory grew up there, and the land is gorgeous – fields, trees, water, and the most incredible view of the sun going down over farm fields. The location was not only beautiful, but also full of meaning: fond memories of the past, and hopeful dreams of their wide open future. Can’t wait to celebrate with these two in just a few short weeks!

Weddings: courtney and cody in brussels wisconsin

Door_County_Wedding_Farm_Field_Brussels_Catholic1 Door_County_Wedding_Farm_Field_Brussels_Catholic2When I arrived for Courtney and Cody’s day, I was expecting the usual chaotic buzz that comes with last minute wedding preparations.  Instead, I walked into a room filled with family and friends laughing, teasing, and smiling without any worries or concern.  I think it comes from being women and families who have known each other long and been through a lot together: weddings and babies, victories and losses.  There was a familiarity between them, a sense of knowing what needed to be done without having to ask.

Throughout the afternoon I noticed how attentive everyone in the bridal party was, and how humbled Courtney and Cody were to have such a loving circle with whom to share their day.  Even with a large guest list, everything about the day felt personal – the ceremony, the speeches, and the interactions between everyone in attendance.  When the church is filled to standing room only, there is no question of if there is love there.  There is so much love that the building is bursting at the seams to contain it.  It was a blessing to document your day, Courtney and Cody; cheers to many happy adventures ahead!
