Portraits: spring mommy and me session at green bay botanical gardens

Spring in Wisconsin is unpredictable. Sometimes it’s 85 in March, and sometimes we get three feet of snow in April. After a long winter (and a few trial versions of spring), May is a welcome month. The leaves start to bud on the trees, fruit blossoms appear, and the gardens burst with tulips and daffodils. We held this year’s Limited Edition Spring Sessions at Green Bay Botanical Gardens to capture this beauty. Lucky for us the day was warm and sunny, and it couldn’t have been better weather to be outdoors capturing happy families and playful kiddos.

These images are from Jen and Briella’s mommy and me session. The pair had never had professional family photos done together and this was a way for them to mark this time in their lives as they prepare for a big move across the country. Their session was casual and fun, and you would think they were experienced in front of the camera — Briella even came up with her own pose she wanted to do! Sending this family best wishes on the move! Stay posted for more family sessions from our 2018 Limited Edition Sessions!

Seniors: kellen, voyageur park de pere

Kellen’s senior session was one of the last we photographed before going on maternity leave.   The leaves were just starting to change and the sky had the soft moody tone it gets in fall. It was the perfect day for portraits. We chose Voyageur Park in De Pere as our location because it offered greenery, waterfront, and more industrial looks. Diverse locations like that make for sessions with good variety. Kellen was a natural in front of the camera and we had a blast capturing his personality and making timeless images. Since it had been years since their last family portrait, the {K} Family decided to add on a mini family session and include Kellen’s brothers, Jamie and Reed. Enjoy your senior year, Kellen!

Portraits: beach maternity session, waiting for baby alena

Elizabeth was turning two and Rachel and John were expecting their second baby girl – so much to celebrate! Lizzy loved playing in the sand and patting her baby sister, and we loved the sweetness of three of them (soon to be four) snuggled up together. Together we explored the beach, watched seagulls, and chased Lizzy down the boardwalk. It was a beautiful evening to celebrate milestones.

Portraits: door county orchard blossom family session

When Tiffany contacted us to set up their Limited Edition Orchard Blossom session, she let me know that she wanted a special way to celebrate mother’s day with the important women in her life. We did just that with a four generation photo with Vicent, mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

The afternoon was cloudy, but the cherry trees were at peak bloom and everything was beautiful. Vincent enjoyed snuggles with family and exploring the orchard at the top speed of an 18 month old (although he did stop in his tracks to check out the old truck!) We love lifestyle sessions like these. There is so much play and personality in the images and I think that makes them even more special!

Portraits: summer family session on the green bay citydeck

As a kid growing up in Door County summertime was all about being near the water – bay, lake, or river – by boat, beach, or bridge, it didn’t matter, as long as there was water. When we started planning the {D} Family’s session, we imagined waterfront and planned outfits around cool, summer tones. Isaac and Deacon were in good spirits enjoying the beautiful weather, and fun interactions with mom and dad. Some days our work feels more like play, and this was one of those days.

Happy Birthday to little brother Deacon who just celebrated his one year milestone with a cake smash (with bow-tie and birthday hat) on the Green Bay Citydeck!

Portraits: winter family session at door county tree farm

Wisconsin winters can be cold and long, but they also allow for some pretty spectacular photographs for those brave enough to handle these chilly days. We loved Vicent’s one year session and family photos at this Door County tree farm in late November. Tiffany and Carlos brought along a plaid wool blanket, and a little wagon for Vicent. We packed up some cocoa to help keep the chill out. That baby was bundled and wrapped and snuggled to keep warm. All of it set us up to capture real moments of parents caring for their little one, and loving one another. Such a magical reminder of what matters as we go into this holiday season. Happy First Birthday, Vicent!

Portraits: fall family session at westwood hills nature center, minneapolis minnesota

minneapolis-minnesota-family-photos-lgbt-westwood-hills-nature-center-st-paul-photographer-1 minneapolis-minnesota-family-photos-lgbt-westwood-hills-nature-center-st-paul-photographer-2In all the bustle of a wedding day, sometimes it’s hard to slow down and have a moment with those you love best. That’s what Together Sessions are for. When Tracy and Kristy mentioned saving their session for family photos with their son, Vinny, we thought that was a perfect idea! We would have an opportunity to photograph them as they truly are on a real day – favorite clothes, home city, and a little family walk. The session was held on a chilly October morning, but Vinny was kept warm by his puffer vest and an occasional snuggle underneath a cozy blanket. Despite the cold, Vinny was a trooper – entertained by Ben’s antics and happily exploring the area. It was a pleasure photographing this beautiful family!

Portraits: country family session in new london, wisconsin

New-London-Family-Photographer-Green-Bay-Country-Rustic-Fields-Photography-Children-Kids-1 New-London-Family-Photographer-Green-Bay-Country-Rustic-Fields-Photography-Children-Kids-2We could not get enough of these cute kiddos! Isley and Chance were playful, sweet, and just excited to be taking photos at the site of their new home. The {C} Family is building their house on acres of fields, woods, and farmland in New London, Wisconsin. This made for an incredible backdrop for family strolling, wildflower picking, and sibling snuggles. As soon as we arrived, we got a tour around the area on the family ATV to check out different spots. As dad started it up, Isley hopped aboard to make sure she got an opportunity to ride the “weeeeeee!” As we cruised around the property she kept turning toward us to smile and check that we were having fun too. The session was wonderful and we even got the opportunity to snap a few Avengers themed photos at the end to highlight a favorite family interest. We’re looking forward to sharing sneaks of their beautiful album and wall art as they arrive over the next few weeks!

Portraits: family session at the national railroad museum, green bay, wisconsin

National-Railroad-Museum-Trains-Green-Bay-Photos-Family-Photographer-Winter-Outdoors-Kids-BirthdayI have always loved trains. I’m not exactly sure where the fascination comes from (my best guess is that it’s a mix of mid-century nostalgia and unquenchable wanderlust). Regardless, I was thrilled when Meagan suggested the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay as the location for their family session. As it turns out little Rowan also loves trains!

Our session took place the week after the first big snowstorm hit Wisconsin, leaving it under a blanket of white. Rowan and Hawthorn were both excited to explore the train museum, climbing inside the engines to see how things worked. We photographed the family out front in the frosty landscape, then spent some time inside with the boys as they discovered all there was to see in their very first visit. As the sun began to go down, we snagged a few more moments outdoors in the beautiful, evening light. This family is always a joy to photograph – so much love and so much play!

Portraits: family session at home, seymour wisconsin

Seymour-Green-Bay-Family-Photography-Farm-Photographer-Rustic-Country-Barn-ChildrenOften we get phone calls and emails tentatively asking if we’re willing to travel to homes, cabins, cottages, and other special locations. The answer is always “yes!” because we love exploring new locations and we know photographing at these private spots makes for more personal images.

For Jaime and her family, that special place is their home in Seymour, Wisconsin which sits on acres of sprawling farmland. Here they work and play hard, with their two sons buzzing through the fields on dirt bikes (their dog, Ivan, in tow).  It’s that imaginative, wild, country childhood that I was lucky enough to grow up with as well, and you can tell how much it means to their two sons Nicholas and Hayden. The session was beautiful – soft, evening light, a rustic old barn, and endless fields of evergreens and untamed grasses – everything we could ask for. Thanks for having us {S} Family (and please pass along some ear scratches to Ivan for us!)
