Weddings: katie & randy, radisson paper valley, appleton, wisconsin

When I met with Katie and Randy over Skype from their home in Seattle, I immediately liked them, and I have a feeling that is how most people feel about the couple. They are open, down-to-earth people full of positive energy, and their wedding was no different. Although the day was hot for Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin, Katie, Randy, and their friends were all in high spirits. Their first look was in the courtyard of Radisson Paper Valley where their wedding would take place that afternoon. We traveled to Lawrence University in downtown Appleton for photos with their fun bridal party.

The ceremony was personal with unique readings and a “irreversible chemical reaction” to symbolize their unity. My favorite part was their vows in which they promised to be by one another’s side when they need help, and get out of the way when they don’t. For some reason I found that phrase to be a lovely way to talk about a marriage of equals in a real way (or maybe it’s my stubborn personality appreciating their stubborn personalities, lol). Either way, congratulations, Katie and Randy! We wish you many years of happiness!

Weddings: ashley & jesse, bridgewood resort, neenah

If I were to talk about Ashley and Jesse’s wedding with my photographer friends, the first thing I would mention is what a powerful color story it had. Ashley and Jesse chose a bold look with two simple colors, red and white, and used them as focal points connecting every part of their day together from the ceremony at Saint Bernadette Parish in Appleton to our photography stops at Lawrence University and Doty Park, to the reception at Bridgewood Resort in Neenah. The pure white of their details (like the textured cake, glowing candles, and beaded dress) acted as a continuous theme, punctuated by pops of bright red roses. It was romantic and we loved it.

Jesse and Ashley have been so wonderful to get to know as a couple, from our first meeting over coffee to their picturesque apple blossom engagement, they are clearly a pair who bring out the best in each other. It was wonderful to be a part of their wedding day, and to see not only how much they care for one another, but also how much their friends and family care for them. Congratulations, Ashley and Jesse!
