Door County Beach Proposal, Ridges Sanctuary

Door County Wedding Photographer Door County Proposal PhotographerI love being in on the secret when it comes to good news like a proposal. It’s even more fun when I know the couple personally. Erick messaged me just a week before he proposed to my cousin, Danielle, saying “I have a question for you…” and right then I knew he was going to ask her to marry him. We planned out the proposal together to get Danielle and her daughter Hazel down to The Ridges Sanctuary Beach under the guise that we were doing family photos over the Fourth of July holiday. But to Danielle’s surprise, just two photos into the session, Erick turned around and got down on one knee.

Door County Surprise Proposal

Before he asked Danielle to marry him, he presented 5 year old Hazel with a miniature version of her mother’s ring and asked her permission. After he got it, he asked Danielle, slid the ring on her finger and gathered them both up in his arms. There was laughter and tears followed by an impromptu engagement session. Congratulations, Danielle and Erick! We wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Engagements: chris & carly, proposal at st. norbert college

Back in March Chris contacted us to photograph his surprise proposal to Carly. After chatting with him, we realized how much of a surprise it was! The couple lives in the Chicago area, but Chris was planning a girls’ weekend with Carly’s friends to get her up to Green Bay without being aware of his secret plans.

Chris and Carly began dating at the beginning of their freshman year at St. Norbert College in De Pere, so even though they now live out of state, proposing to her in the place where it all began was important to him. The date fast approached and Chris was able to coordinate all the many people who were to be a part of the surprise. As Carly and her friend walked along the Fox River, they turned the corner by the St. Norbert docks to see Chris waiting waiting at the bench where the two of them started dating. In his arms he held three dozen roses, and as she approached, he knelt down and asked her to marry him.

As Ben and I hid behind buildings capturing the moment, both their families came from across campus, running down the hill to greet them and spend the weekend in celebration. Even with the chilly, cloudy weather, Carly slipped out of her jacket for a little mini engagement session on the beautiful campus where it all began. Congratulations, Chris and Carly!

Portraits: matt & chelsea, northwoods cabin proposal

Crivitz-Engagement-Proposal-Northwoods-Wisconsin-Engagement-Photographer-Wedding-1 Crivitz-Engagement-Proposal-Northwoods-Wisconsin-Engagement-Photographer-Wedding-2Matt and Chelsea knew each other a long time before they got together. They traveled in the same groups of friends, worked side-by-side, and saw the absolute best and worst days. Their relationship was built before one tried to impress the other, before silly “dating games” took hold, and because of that, it came from a place of understanding and honesty. Last year Matt surprised Chelsea with a photography session at her family’s cabin as a gift, but as the session came around this summer, it became more than just a “couples session”. The turn-of-the-century cabin is in the Crivitz area and sits on beautiful Wonder Lake, far into the woods.  As the session ended on a hot July afternoon and the canoe was being pulled ashore, Matt got down on one knee right there in the lake and asked Chelsea to marry him. She said yes, and we couldn’t have been happier to be there to capture such an important milestone at a place they love best. Congratulations, Chelsea and Matt!
