Each year we choose a special location and a theme centered around the changing seasons as our Limited Edition Session location. This year it was “Spring in the City” where we captured the crabapple blossoms in downtown Green Bay when they hit their peak in May.

Early on in our photography journey, we learned “mini sessions” weren’t for us. They felt too rushed with only 10-15 minutes of time with families, which didn’t give space for snack breaks or kiddos who take a bit of time to warm up to new people. We’re also not big on props and traditional themes as they often remind us old portrait studios. Instead, we came up with what we call Limited Edition Sessions, which give us a full 45 minutes of time with our families, allowing us to capture not only group shots smiling at the camera, but also playful lifestyle images and “breakdowns” of the group like sibling and kid portraits.

Instead of cheesy props and fake smiles, we choose a location that perfectly expresses a fleeting moment in the changing seasons (in this case, spring bloom!) and use our family photography method of “big play” to get real smiles and capture the candid personalities of the kiddos. After all, photos are much better if they not only look like your family, but feel like your family too.
