It’s our favorite thing to have families return to us! We get to see how much the kids have grown, hear about their new obsessions, and play together — the big play that makes real smiles.

Sara contacted us a few years ago for family photos. When we talked about her session vision, her goals, and what she was looking for, she said, “I just want a photo of my kids together smiling. If we can get anything else beyond that, great, if we can’t, fine.” She explained that her daughters loved photos but that her son, who was on the spectrum, wasn’t one for holding still or slowing down. It would be tough to capture a photo where he was looking at the camera, smiling, and standing in one place.

Those who know us best know we’re always up for a challenge and we asked Sara a lot more questions about what Alex liked, what he engaged with. Then, on the session day, we worked quickly, starting with the most important photos to Sara, and letting Alex loosen up more and more as the session went on.
This fall session in Door County was the family’s second session with us and we were even more excited to have them back. Just like before we started with the more difficult photos first, then leaned into candid photos as the session went on so we could capture the kids running, playing, and skipping stones along the water at Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay.
Destination Photography in Door County
The fall color up in Door County is always amazing for photos, but the real expressions and real moments of kiddos playing together is what makes it for us. Seeing families engaging with nature and with one another in this way is where the real magic comes in.
