The most beautiful things arrive on their own schedule. As someone who loves to be in control of the timing and planning of everything in her life, it is a truth I have come to learn well….especially when it comes to babies. And sometimes that calls for a maternity session in March.

For those less familiar with Wisconsin, March is one of the most unpredictable months — sometimes a snowglobe, occasionally a warm spring day, always a mud pit. It is circumstances like these that are fun for photographers like us because it invokes a challenge: create a beautiful vision for a session in a difficult time of year using the best of what March has to offer. Then, of course, it’s time to execute.

On Miranda and Kyle’s session day the wind calmed down just enough to toss some curls and furl her skirts and the sun gave this golden warmth just before dipping behind the tree-line. We searched out every remaining patch of snow to create the dreamy winterscape we had envisioned together.

We had the pleasure of photographing Miranda and Kyle’s wedding a few years before this, right after we had our first baby girl. I remember how new it all was for me when we met, and it was exciting to now watch them go through this next milestone together, while the birth of my second was still so recent. We were so happy to document this next celebration with them. Congratulations, Miranda and Kyle!
