Jennifer and Joe planned the most beautiful, intimate wedding at one of our favorite wedding venues in Door County, Gordon Lodge. A lot of times couples think of Gordon Lodge as a venue made for large weddings with hundreds of guests, but truly they have so many spaces and are able to adapt them perfectly to match any size wedding, even a 30 person affair like Jennifer and Joe put together.

Jennifer got ready in one of the bridal suite cottages Gordon Lodge has along the waterfront, which was beautiful, with big windows and a stunning soaking tub. Between the two of them they have five boys, and that meant plenty of company for Joe as he got ready. When the time came for the first look, Nicole, the planner at Gordon Lodge, loaded us up with Jennifer and drove us to the prettiest area at the center of the woods, with large old growth trees and a veritable carpet made of moss. Jennifer tapped Joe on the shoulder and you could see the anxiety lift for both of them as he turned and they hugged.

After a few photos in the cedars, we packed up to head to Cana Island Lighthouse for couples photos. We captured the lighthouse itself as well as Lake Michigan, waves rolling in, warm and breezy, despite being October. When we returned to Gordon Lodge, it was time for a waterfront ceremony in which each guest held the wedding bands to infuse them with positivity and well wishes. The ceremony was followed by dinner, sunset, photos, and dancing on the patio.

I think oftentimes when couples plan small weddings they think everything about it needs to be simple or held back, but truly, it can make even more space for light luxury. A smaller guest list doesn’t mean everything else must shrink; sometimes that smaller guest list means a little nicer dinner, a little fancier cocktails, a budget for the dress you truly wanted, or whatever else it might be. One thing is for sure, a small wedding like the one you see here means every single person who is there, is so so excited to be a part of your special day. Congratulations, Jennifer and Joe!
