Snow is unreliable here in Wisconsin. It’s a long-running joke that the time we most yearn for snow (those pre-holiday days as we hang our lights and sing our carols) is the time it is most finicky. We can pretty much always count on late January to mid-February snow and ice for romantic engagement photos and cozy maternity sessions, but what about those families trying to get that early December photo in time for their holiday card?

This is why we have a snow machine. We don’t bring it out often, just a few times a year on request, but it’s a great little tool to add a little fallen snow on top of what’s out there (especially in the case of those chilly December days that still somehow leave us with patchy bits of snow and green-brown grass).

When Sara and her family were planning for their yearly session, we talked about all different options — season, location, theme — and we kept returning to a winter session just in time for her Christmas cards. When she talked about hosting it at their home to have the session be even more personal, I brought up the idea of a snow machine, and she loved it!
Sara said for weeks after their cards went out she was getting calls from friends saying how much they loved the pictures. The falling snow added that little extra bit of “Christmas magic”.
Always a pleasure to have this family back, even as Sam and Ben (who used to be so small!) now tower over us! Happy holidays, Sara, Mike, Sam, and Ben!
