Kaela and Tom are one of the most supportive couples I’ve ever met. They are fiercely driven in their work, with many friends and independent lives. But they also have a soft spot for playing homebodies, setting aside down time with nothing to do but snuggle their dogs. This is the energy I wanted to bring into their session. I wanted it to feel like “pressing pause” on a busy life, like setting themselves outside the big world, with only one another.

Winter Snow Photos, Door County, Wisconsin

Door County was my first home and that means I have many favorite places to visit, and some special spots that aren’t as popular to share with clients who have never been. One of the most underrated natural areas in the peninsula (in my humble local opinion) is Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay. I love hiking the Ice Age Trail there in winter, and I know how beautiful it can be as a space to camp. This is what inspired our Fireside Sessions.

The concept was build a cozy fire with hot drinks and a s’mores station, create some falling snow, and venture out on the ice. Then use my old “hospitality industry background” to send the couple off on the perfect date night — hooking them up with the best spa experiences, bed and breakfast, and dinner the area has to offer.

I love the colors Kaela chose for this session. The rich berry and tan tones of her outfit combine with a variety of textures upped the cozy factor and the dark colors offset her brand new engagement ring (EEP!) Sometimes I want to spend my winters only seeing the snow from behind my windows with a hot drink in hand, but for sessions like this, I’m lacing up my boots every time.
